Lady Macbeth - 1865
A short story by the Russian writer Nikolai Semyonovich Leskov from 1865 became the basis for Dmitri Shostakovich's opera Lady Macbeth of the Mcenské újezdu (edited in 1963 by Kateřina Izmailová), whose performance in the early 1930s provoked the displeasure of the Soviet dictator Stalin to such an extent that the entire local musical modernity was dismissed as formalistic and even vulgar.

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
A short story by the Russian writer Nikolay Semyonovich Leskov from 1865 became the basis for Dmitri Shostakovich's opera Lady Macbeth of the Mcenské újezdu (edited in 1963 by Kateřina Izmailová), whose performance in the early 1930s provoked the displeasure of the Soviet dictator Stalin so much that the entire local musical modernism was rejected as formalistic and even vulgar. Choreographer and director Libor Vaculík, whose works are numerously represented in the repertoire of the DJKT ballet, chose passages of Shostakovich's music for the dance drama on the Nové scéna stage, in which, among other things, the power of the artistic experience of the soloist Jarmila Hruškociová in the main role stands out .
Premiere on March 19, 2022 at DJKT's New Stage.
The premiere date was moved due to the covid-19 pandemic from the originally planned March 27, 2021.
