A remarkable staging (1960) of Agatha Christie’s well-known novel Five Little Pigs, in which a young woman, Carla, wants to clear the name of her mother, who was sentenced for murdering her husband sixteen years ago. A remarkable staging (1960) of Agatha Christie’s well-known novel Five Little Pigs, in which a young woman, Carla, wants to clear the name of her mother, who was sentenced for murdering her husband sixteen years ago. It is not until Carla turns twenty-one that she finds her mother’s letter saying that she was innocent. Therefore, she approaches a nice young lawyer, whose father defended her mother in court, and with the help of five key witnesses they try to find out the truth about the tragedy. However, memory is often deceptive. And what if Carla’s mother lied in her letter and was really guilty?

One of the most remarkable features of this play is its form of story-telling. While traditional detective stories are usually told linearly, this production works with the plot in a different way.  Scenes from the present are organically mingled with the retrospective ones from the time of the murder. We believe that it is this less traditional drama conception that makes the play attractive. And it is interesting not only for the fans of the “Queen of Detective Stories.”

The staging of Agatha Christie’s Five Little Pigs follows the production of her The Mousetrap, which was also directed by Martina Schlegelová. It is the second part of a trilogy in preparation, called Three Times with Agatha Christie.
