THE THIRD HAND

In their project Third Hand, Handa Gote return to puppet theatre and follow the trail of their own production Sapphire Head, which was a reconstruction of a forgotten puppet project from the 1990s. Now, Handa Gote continue their reconstruction efforts, this time with a genre that may not have been a genre at all and probably never existed in the first place.

ABOUT THE PLAY

In their project Third Hand, Handa Gote return to puppet theatre and follow the trail of their own production Sapphire Head, which was a reconstruction of a forgotten puppet project from the 1990s.

Now, Handa Gote continue their reconstruction efforts, this time with a genre that may not have been a genre at all and probably never existed in the first place.

It is an exploration of the specific visuality of experimental puppetry of the 1990s and an attempt to revive this forgotten micro-genre of surrealist puppet theatre.

About the theatre:

Since 2005, the Handa Gote Research & Development art group has been working on the boundaries of theatre, contemporary dance, the visual arts, music, performance and conceptual art. The ensemble is interested in the concept of post-dramatic and post-spectacular theatre, non-linear narratives, and the application of experiences of contemporary music and visual arts within theatre. Its performances involve the creative use of technology – both old technology and the most modern available. In most of its projects, the ensemble works with media archaeology and in works approaching documentary theatre they focus strongly on “small (personal) histories”.
