BOUQUET VOL. 2

Horror ballads based on the collection by the Czech 19th century folklorist and writer Karel Jaromír Erben. Who is actually the one suffering when everyone dies? Who tells the stories that we leave behind? Who will bring a bouquet on our grave when the hussar, the carriage and the rooster lie in the corner? Or the tragedy of the bereaved.

ABOUT THE PLAY

Horror ballads based on the collection by the Czech 19th century folklorist and writer Karel Jaromír Erben. Who is actually the one suffering when everyone dies? Who tells the stories that we leave behind? Who will bring a bouquet on our grave when the hussar, the carriage and the rooster lie in the corner? Or the tragedy of the bereaved.

Stories full of contradictions between traditional ballads and contemporary language blend with the real lived experience of the actors. Live, they share their insight into how the Bouquet relates to our present life. Several ballads, adapted in an abbreviated and playful form, have been brought to the stage to engage the attention of young people while introducing them to the timelessness of Erben's work.

 Moving Station, Pilsen (Czech Republic)

About the theatre:

The show was produced by Moving Station - an independent arts venue and centre for progressive education about art through art. Moving Station is a Pilsen-based stage for alternative theatre, dance and interdisciplinary artistic experiments, bringing to the city artists from all over the country and abroad. Each year, it produces its own devised theatre piece with a guest director, often socially engaged and addressing a society-wide issue.

The backbone of the newly formed creative group are Tereza and Petr Vydarený, who, as the set designer and the director, invited actors from Pilsen and Prague to collaborate. The production is a result of collective work drawing on the participants' current experience and personal stories. The common goal is to reach out to primarily teenagers making the not so popular compulsory reading more attractive to them. At the same time, it continues and develops the original independent art produced at Moving Station.
